Soar by Christina Aguilera (via: wordsandlyrics)
I got a Christmas present in the mail from one of my family members yesterday. It was a “Stage Management” book and came with a note that said:
“Abby - this book is very dear to my heart because I know it will save you. Stage Management will be a good opportunity for you when you can’t achieve success as an actress.”
Six months ago that would have upset me, but today I have a different response. I’ve realized that growing up means more than getting older and starting to use anti-aging face wash at 20. No - growing up means knowing what to worry about and what to let go. It means knowing how to protect yourself and how to let people in. (And it also means knowing how to hold your maryjane and liquor, but I digress.)
“Don’t be scared to fly alone, Find a path that is your own.”
God, I love that.
To my family member who doesn’t believe in me, I politely wrote a thank you note. And with that thank you note, I wish to send a big ‘fuck you’ as well. Thank you for the book, but I’m selling it on amazon to buy cute boots that I’m gonna work my actress ass off in.
Thanks for listening,
A <3
